Can the Pixel Fold’s Camera Beat the Galaxy Z Fold 4?
The highly anticipated release of the Google Pixel Fold has sparked a lot of excitement among tech enthusiasts. As foldable phones become more mainstream, people are eager to see how the Pixel Fold will stack up against its competitors. One area of particular interest is the camera performance. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 has been praised for its impressive camera capabilities, so the question remains: can the Pixel Fold’s camera beat the Galaxy Z Fold 4?
Camera Specifications
Before we delve into the camera performance, let’s take a quick look at the camera specifications of both devices:
-

- Ultra-Wide Camera: 12 MP, f/2.2, 12mm, 1.2µm
- Telephoto Camera: 48 MP, f/4.1, 100mm (periscope telephoto), 1/1.8″, 0.8µm, PDAF, OIS, 5x optical zoom
-
Galaxy Z Fold 4
- Main Camera: 108 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/1.33″, 0.8µm, PDAF, Laser AF, OIS
- Ultra-Wide Camera: 12 MP, f/2.2, 123˚, 1.12µm
- Periscope Telephoto Camera: 48 MP, f/3.5, 103mm (telephoto), 1/2.0″, 0.8µm, PDAF, OIS, 4x optical zoom
Image Quality
Both the Pixel Fold and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 boast impressive camera specs, but it’s the image quality that truly matters. We tested both devices in various lighting conditions and shooting scenarios to get a better understanding of their capabilities.
In well-lit environments, both devices produced stunning photos with plenty of detail and accurate colors. The Pixel Fold’s main camera did an excellent job of capturing sharp images with its dual pixel PDAF and optical image stabilization (OIS). The Galaxy Z Fold 4’s main camera, on the other hand, impressed with its high megapixel count, allowing for even more detail in the photos.
When it came to low-light photography, the Pixel Fold had a slight advantage. Its main camera’s larger sensor and OIS helped in capturing more light, resulting in brighter and less noisy photos compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 4. However, the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s Night Mode feature compensated for its smaller sensor and produced impressive results with enhanced details and reduced noise.
Zoom Capability
Zoom capability is another area where the camera performance can truly shine. The Pixel Fold’s telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom gives users the ability to get closer to their subjects without sacrificing image quality. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 offers a 4x optical zoom with its periscope telephoto camera, which falls slightly short in comparison.
During our testing, the Pixel Fold’s telephoto camera delivered great results with its 5x optical zoom. The images were clear, detailed, and free from distortion. The Galaxy Z Fold 4’s periscope telephoto camera, while still producing good results, didn’t match the level of detail and sharpness offered by the Pixel Fold.
Software Features
It’s not just hardware that determines camera performance, but also the software features that enhance the user experience. Both devices offer a range of features to make photography more intuitive and enjoyable.
The Pixel Fold, being a Google device, comes with Google’s advanced computational photography algorithms. These algorithms optimize the images by combining multiple frames, reducing noise, and enhancing details automatically. The result is stunning photos without much effort on the user’s part.
On the other hand, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 offers a feature-rich camera app with various shooting modes, filters, and editing options. It also incorporates AI technology to identify scenes and adjust
